Reacting or Predicting?
Are you reacting to fires or predicting storms? One of my favorite high gain opportunities that I supported the build out of- was for a PMI white paper on the adjustment to the critter model, which analyzes risk for project management. The proposal was to adjust the model from just assessing probability and severity to also include timing. That way you can allocate the right resources in the right quantities at the right time in the right location.
And the best part, I built the proposal into a weather forecast. I've always thought that I'd make a really good weather woman, but I digress. Is that not what we as leaders have to deal with on a daily basis for every aspect of our businesses.
We have to anticipate challenges before they hit. We have to be timely and strategic so that we avoid crisis management and instead bring proactive, effective and efficient teams and solutions to the table. And if we're being honest, this applies to our personal lives too.
Successful business owners don't just work hard. They build systems and strategies to be proactive, not reactive. Learn to operate strategically by watching Pursuit of Excellence.
