Become Excellent

Excellence isn't something that you do. It's about who you are and how you live.

When I think back to my earliest competitions, whether it was swimming, soccer, or sailing, I wasn't chasing medals. I was chasing a standard. Excellence isn't a checklist of achievements as much as we all want it to be. It's a way of living. In everything that I've done, whether it was consulting, athletics, finance, I learned that those who truly excel aren't waiting to be ready. They aren't waiting for a stamp of approval. They aren't waiting for permission. They aren't waiting for third party validation. They seem to have an unrelenting belief in themselves, no matter where the bar is set. They are stubborn and delusional that hitting anything less than that is not an option. They do it scared. They do it inexperienced. They just do it.

Embracing excellence as an identity means you hold yourself to higher standards, especially when no one is watching. It's about building a plan, hiring a mentor, surrounding yourself with people who hold themselves to their own high standards and protect those boundaries ferociously. This isn't anything new. This is just about putting your people pleasing aside, protecting your peace, and fighting for your potential to never be wasted. The reality is that you are capable of doing whatever you want. Truly anything. You just have to become the person that follows through, that builds the strategy, and keeps their promise to themselves. The question isn't if you are ready, it's are you willing to commit and sacrifice to see what you can become.
